Job Summary:
The GIS Expert will lead the Geographic Information System (GIS) initiatives within the organization, providing technical expertise, strategic direction, and leadership in GIS technology and applications. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to analyze spatial data requirements, design GIS solutions, and implement geospatial workflows to support business objectives. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in GIS, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage complex projects.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the organization's GIS strategy, in alignment with business goals and objectives.
- Identify opportunities for GIS integration across departments and functions.
- Define GIS standards, policies, and best practices.
- Analyze spatial data to identify patterns, trends, and insights.
- Develop and maintain spatial databases, datasets, and metadata.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and accuracy in GIS databases.
- Design and develop GIS applications, tools, and workflows to meet business requirements.
- Customize and configure GIS software platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) to address specific needs.
- Integrate GIS functionality with other systems and applications.
- Create geospatial models and simulations to support decision-making and planning.
- Generate maps, reports, and visualizations to communicate spatial data findings.
- Develop interactive web mapping applications for data dissemination and analysis.
- Lead GIS projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and manage expectations.
- Provide training and support to users of GIS technology within the organization.
- Promote GIS awareness and build GIS capabilities across departments.
- Stay updated on emerging GIS trends, technologies, and best practices.
Educational Qualifications:
Basic:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science/ IT, or related fields from a recognized university/institute.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in IT management or related fields from a recognized university/institute.

- Experience in geospatial data collection, processing, and analysis using advanced techniques and tools like remote sensing, LiDAR, and GPS.
- Knowledge of spatial databases and data management systems such as PostgreSQL with PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, or MongoDB, incorporating the latest database technologies and spatial indexing methods.
- Familiarity with web mapping technologies and frameworks such as Leaflet, OpenLayers, or Mapbox, utilizing APIs and libraries to develop interactive and dynamic maps for web applications.
- Proficiency in spatial data conversion workflows using scripting languages like Python, R, or JavaScript, and integrating geospatial data into custom applications.
- Understanding of geospatial standards and protocols such as OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) standards, WMS (Web Map Service), WFS (Web Feature Service), and WCS (Web Coverage Service), ensuring interoperability and compatibility with external systems.
- Experience of working with geospatial data in various formats such as Excel, CSV, Shapefile, KML, etc., and developing geospatial data validation tools (web-based).
- Experience with spatial data visualization and storytelling techniques, using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Carto to create compelling and insightful geospatial visualizations and dashboards.
- Knowledge of cloud-based GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Online, Google Earth Engine, or AWS Location Services, leveraging scalable and flexible infrastructure for geospatial data storage, processing, and analysis.
- Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and DevOps practices, participating in iterative development cycles, sprint planning, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for GIS applications.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, data scientists, and domain experts, and effectively communicate technical concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
